Explanation
A tsunami is most commonly and powerfully generated by the sudden displacement of the seafloor during an earthquake. While underwater landslides and hurricanes can cause waves, they rarely produce the massive, destructive force of a true tsunami. Therefore, the primary cause of a heavy tsunami is an earthquake.
